by Tommy Wiedmann, Arunima Malik, Nicholas Michael Angelakis, Peter L Daniels, Manfred Lenzen, Michalis Hadjikakou, Lavinia Poruschi, Yumi Kobayashi, Joy Murray, Christopher Dey, Raymond Cui, Alan C Lo, Beatriz Reutter

Testing tasks

We will collect testing feedback here on this Wiki page (thereby testing the Wiki function itself!). Once the website has been launched properly we will delete this Wiki again.

Below you will find a number of questions, structured in the same order as the menu of the website. Please give us feedback by inserting your replies inline below (using the ‘Edit’ function, NOT the ‘Comment’ function). Add your initials as a prefix, so we can contact you in case something is not clear. Please do not email comments unless really necessary. Deadline for providing the first round of comments is Monday, 19th of October 2015. We will then try and implement changes and suggestions; please be patient, this will take time. It is likely that we will ask you for a second round of review in due course. Thank you very much for your help!

Overall structure

Is the overall website structure clear and intuitive? Is it easy to ‘get around’? Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):
For example:

TW: The font type and size needs to be consistent across all pages. Personally I think Calibri looks good. ML: Navigation is good from the top bar.

YK: I like the sidebar menu too (it’s not available in some pages, though).

YK: (Not sure if this comment fits in this category…) When trying to access contents/pages that requires logging-in, log-in page appears, but after logging-in, it goes to my Dashboard… nice to go back to where I was (i.e. About -> Newsletter -> “Subscribe To Mailing list”, “Edit” tab in this Wiki page)

YK: (Another comment I don’t know where to put…) By accident I tried to log in from multiple windows and got an error message: “Sorry. Something went wong. Please try logging in again.” … typo “wrong” instead of “wong”.

MH: It is clear and intuitive – I like the dropdown menus and the colours are discrete and easy on the eye. Personal dashboard is also easy to use and works fine.

Overall design

What do you think of the overall design, i.e. colour theme, use of pictures, placement of logo and menu, etc.? Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

ML: Needs an image ! JM: overall design is good, clear and easy to navigate; colour theme is OK (a bit subdued but very readable); could do with some more images throughout; menus are fine AM: Could do with a different colour scheme for the header, rather than light blue. White font colour looks a bit faint.

MH: More images would be nice – too much white space aside from the text.

Home

Current address: https://130.56.249.87 (this will be changed later to ielab.info)

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials). Make constructive suggestions where possible. TW: I think there should be a background picture and would to suggest this one:
transit.png

ML: The homepage looks a bit dry to me – too much text, too many fonts, needs a picture. Names of the labs are good. JM: Not keen on TIMES font; could do with a more exciting graphic; clear and easy to navigate

MH: I agree about the font – something else like Calibri would work better, also needs to be larger; otherwise nice and simple

About

Landing page (menu level 1) for ‘About’. Current address: https://130.56.249.87/about

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials). JM: clear and easy to use; could do with a graphic

YK: I would like to be able to click on those icons to move to other pages.

MH: Colour icons would work better – otherwise nice and simple

About > What is IELab?

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/about/ielab

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

ML: Left bar, perhaps add a list item called ‘Key publication’ and link to STOTEN article.

ML: The passage · Create your own account. It’s free and will give you access to our online simulation tools and other features. · Create your own private user group and collaborate privately with students and colleagues that you invite. · Become a contributor by uploading your own presentations and simulation tools for others to share. might need its own tab, because people won’t expect this to appear under ‘About’.

ML: The many links work very well.

JM: have tried all the links (I think) and all work; could do with a graphic at the top. On all pages there’s a fair bit of empty space at the top of the page, it would be good if we could use this space for a graphic. Typo: 4th para after diagram This feature is particularly suseful for hybrid LCA and sector disaggregation.

MH: Agree about the white space – need to fill that in with some images and colour. I also wonder whether the text is a bit too long and could be broken up in sub-pages e.g who the tool is meant to appeal to, things like creating an account etc may be best found in other dedicated pages.

About > Newsletter

Menu level 2 item with new address: https://130.56.249.87/about/newsletter (to be created). We will create a test newsletter later and need to find out whether people need to “Subscribe To Mailing Lists” to receive newsletters.

Please subscribe to the list; testing the newsletter will come later.

About > Administration

Menu level 2 item with new address: https://130.56.249.87/about/administration (to be created).

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials)..

ML: The Sydney Uni link should be to http://www.isa.org.usyd.edu.au JM: I wondered about that – but would you link to both? with both icons? You can’t get to the Uni site from ISA’s site and these are about ‘collaborating institutions’. Typo: 1st para after the Collaborating institutions’ icons It was with funded under the NeCTAR scheme.

YK: Those names of institutions spelled out next to each logo looking kind of weird to me… maybe the font/alignment/etc..

MH: Again choice of font is an issue; diagram resolution could be better.

About > Terms of Use

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/about/terms-of-use

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials). Note that https://130.56.249.87 will be replaced with ielab.info later.

JM: Link from “Create New Account” to “Terms of Use” is broken

MH: Fine, this page is not meant to be exciting!

Community

Menu level 1 landing page for “Community”. Current address: https://130.56.249.87/community

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials). Make constructive suggestions where possible. JM: typo: Members (Members)

YK: no description for “Ask the Community”? How different is it from “Forum”? i.e. can users not ask questions in the “Forum”…?

MH: Layout is fine, just needs colourful images instead of B&W.

Community > Forum

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/forum

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

Community > Members

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/members

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: Should “Forgot your username?” and “Forgot your password?” (on the right side of the shaded area) be in this page? I am not sure if I would think to go to “Community” area hoping to get support to find my username/password :-)

MH: Good for finding other users and looking at their contributions (bit like facebook) – very intuitive to use.

Community > Members > Browse Members

Menu level 3 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/members/browse

Check that you are a member.

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

ML: Adding to my profile was easy, although the ‘Toggle Editor’ button didn’t work and I could not format fonts (e.g. to italics) in my bio.

Community > Groups

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/groups

Please sign up to a group you are interested in. The current groups are based on the round table discussions at the IELab Conference. The notes from these discussions will be posted later, once a number of people have signed up to the groups.

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: The link (“Need Help?”) on the left side of the shaded area in this “Groups” page has got a heading (“Questions?”), but not in the “Members” page. Nice to be consistent?

MH: Was able to join groups easily.

Community > Groups > Browse Groups

Menu level 3 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/groups/browse

Please sign up for the Group you are interested in!

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

Community > Projects

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/projects

Can you add yourself to a project? You might have to ask the owner of the project to add your name. Please do so for those projects where you are actually involved. If you have your own project using IELab, please add it here and now.

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: The page design (i.e. the sidebar menu) of this page (and the “Browse Projects” page) is a bit different from others…

MH: Fonts could be bigger.

Community > Projects > Browse Projects

Menu level 3 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/community/projects/browse

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

MH: Looks good.

MH: Nice and simple.

Discover

Menu level 1 landing page for “Discover” with this address: https://130.56.249.87/discover

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

MH: Again some colour would be nice

Discover > Events

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/discover/events

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: When I go from the top menu Discover->Events or click “Events” link in the sidebar menu (of any page), there is a sidebar menu (it goes to https://130.56.249.87/discover/events), while clicking “Events” in the “Discover” page takes me to an ‘Events’ page without sidebar menu (https://130.56.249.87/events).

Discover > Events > IELab Conference 2015

Menu level 3 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/discover/events/ielab-conference-2015

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: Maybe it’s nice if the list of participants can be viewed in the web browser (instead of having the excel file downloaded) when the link was clicked?

MH: I think this looks good – like the links to pictures and participant list.

Discover > Events > IELab Conference 2015 Photo Gallery

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: I don’t see links to “IELab Conference 2015 Photo Gallery” in the Events page… (There is one in the “IELab Conference 2015” page)

Discover > Publications

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/discover/publications

You can add your own publications but please only add those that ARE RELATED to the IELab (i.e. the research has either used the IELab or is about the IElab). Publications not related to the IELab should not be added.

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

TW: Not sure whether this is the best way to do this but here is how I have entered publications: I have exported bibliographic details from EndNote in BibTex format, then changed the ending of the exported file from .txt to .bib and then imported it to the IELab list using the import function. This worked well except that the authors were missing which I added manually. I also manually changed the ‘Type’ from ‘Article’ and the ‘Ref Type’ to ‘Journal Article’ manually (I think this will be important for subsequent searches). If anyone finds a better way of importing citations please post it as a forum article.

ML: Unable to locate the ‘import’ button.

JM: the Publications page is headed “Citations” should it be “Publications”? Or should it be the other way around (i.e. “Publications” on the drop down menu should be “Citations”?) (YK: the same for the “Publications Metrics” page…)

MH: Yes, how do we import our publications?

Support > Wiki Manuals

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/support/wiki

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

IN Wiki Manuals under heading “What are Wiki Manuals?” typo “…use wikis mostly for in the form of manuals…”

IN Basic IELab information: Typo: 1st para after Fig 1 IO data could provide information (Australina Dollars) & (i.e. marku001 + markup002).

and Under Table 1: sentence a bit odd and a couple of typos Satellite accounts provides information of a? different nature depending on the satellite account selected, the information is provided on in? terms of Q results. Due to the open nature of IELab, satellites account would be continuously being added. Units for satellite accounts depend on the chosen account

ALSO IELab produce results accounting for financial years, for which year 2009 account for the financial year 2008-2009.  ??

MH: Looks good

Support > Wiki Manuals > Browse Wikis

Menu level 3 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/support/wiki/Special:AllPages

Please add your comments below (beginning with your initials):

YK: “Browse Wikis” is not available in the sidebar menu. YK: The heading and the menu name do not match (similar to the comments in the ‘Discover > Publication]’ section above.)

MH: Most of the wiki links not fully operational yet – e.g Introduction to the IElab wiki.

Support > Tickets

Menu level 2 item with this address: https://130.56.249.87/feedback/report_problems

There are two different ways of submitting a ticket. Please submit at least one test ticket for each method (using a real or a fake question):

  1. via https://130.56.249.87/feedback/report_problems
  2. by pressing the question.png button in the top right corner. This opens up a pull-down form which you can fill in.

Currently we don’t know whether there is a difference in submitting a request via 1) or 2) so please do both and let us know which way you submitted. Thanks. Please add additional comments below (beginning with your initials):

TW: Need to find out whether it is possible to provide pre-set categories for support enquiries. These will determine the workflow of the support
